When the weather starts to get warmer, it signals the perfect time to head outdoors surrounded by lush landscape to mix and mingle with friends.

That was the exact scenario for the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce’s latest Member Meetup as Wiesner Bros. Nursery hosted business professionals on the grounds of their eight-acre site. Attendees took advantage of the ideal conditions to swap stories and share insight as blooming flowers provided festive vibes.

The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce’s 124th Annual Gala at Flagship Brewing Company invited Staten Island business professionals to Westeros, a medieval setting for “Chamber of Thrones.”

Inspired by the popular TV show, “Game of Thrones,” the bash featured food fit for kings and queens as diners devoured their opulent meals around a banquet-style feast. Castle banners lined inside the Tompkinsville brewery added to the transformation while trivia and various games were played by the merry crowd of almost 150 people.

Red and white wines along with Staten Island business professionals had the chance to breathe during the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce’s spring Member Meetup event.

Sixteen high school entrepreneurs pitched their business ideas to a panel of judges to solicit funding for their enterprise during the sixth annual Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Investor Panel at Staten Island Technical High School.

The 5th Annual Staten Island CareerCon at St. John’s University in Grymes Hill was another success as hundreds of high school students spent the morning weaving through tables exploring career and internship opportunities from various businesses and organizations.

Eight of the borough’s distinguished business and community leaders were roasted during the 25th Annual Louis R. Miller Business Leadership Awards Breakfast hosted by the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce at the Hilton Garden Inn.

While the business and non-profit professionals were certainly saluted for their stellar work making Staten Island a great place to live and work, the light-hearted affair contained plenty of laughs as presenters kept up with tradition by pulling no punches during comedic routines to honor the individuals.

The path Keith Cummings took to become a plumber really isn’t hard to explain.

“My buddies and I all lived over there, so we felt a special affinity towards that neighborhood,” said Zaid, the Owning Partner/Operations Manager at Richmond Hood Company. “It was an emerging time for local businesses on Van Duzer.”

With the changing landscape of the catering business, Kornbrekke says he relies on the Chamber to get the message out to customers.

“It gets your business out there. It keeps it in the neighborhood. I like it. I think it really works,” said the owner.

When you’ve been in business for over 40 years, you obviously know you’re doing something right. But sometimes facing major adversity can help reinforce any doubts.

When you gain extensive knowledge in a subject matter, you would think that starting a business in that field would be a no-brainer.
