Troost Bros: Celebrating 25 Years of Chamber Membership
By Leslie Rivera, Staten Island Chamber
From an early age, brothers Jeff and Scott Troost were drawn to hands-on work, including carpentry, landscaping, and the kind of practical skills that build more than just structures. Their father, a skilled carpenter, filled their childhood with home projects, sparking a lifelong appreciation for craftsmanship. Jeff turned that passion into a side business while pursuing a degree in Architecture, while Scott found his creative outlet in Graphic Design, working just outside New York. Though their paths began separately, both brothers carried with them the values of hard work and precision, setting the stage for a collaboration that would eventually shape one of Staten Island’s most trusted construction companies.
“There were no big hardware or construction companies around Staten Island in the ‘90s, so we thought this would be a great opportunity to bring a more high-quality operation to the Island,” says Jeff.
They decided to seize the opportunity, and by 1996, Troost Bros was born.
“When we first started, we just jumped into a van and did the demolition, the framing, the plumbing and the electrical, the drywall, the taping, the trim, the doors, the cabinetry installation— all together,” explains Jeff.
In the early days, Troost Bros took on projects across Brooklyn and Manhattan, steadily building a reputation for quality and reliability. As their name grew, they were able to focus operations closer to home, ultimately centralizing their work in Staten Island. Business grew rapidly, prompting a move from their home office to a dedicated facility at 470 Clove Road. With that growth came the need for a larger team, leading Jeff and Scott to expand their workforce with additional staff, skilled workers, and contractors to take on increasingly ambitious projects.
“Eventually, we both felt the best direction for [Jeff] would be sales, contracts, and scheduling, while I would oversee the project management of the multiple crews we’ve had,” said Scott.
For the past 25 years, they have continued to work in these roles fruitfully, demonstrating dedication for their craft and service.
Troost Bros has a proud history of achievement and community engagement. Since joining the Chamber in 2000, the company has been the recipient of over a dozen Building Awards since 2007. They have been active members in the Building Awards event committee and maintained a close relationship with the Chamber member community.
“We knew how important it was to build a reputation and stay connected to other businesses aside from our customers,” says Jeff, “With the touch of a button, I can reach out and say, ‘I need someone, can you help me?’ And there’ll be someone there to give us the help we need, so we appreciate the opportunity to get network and stay connected to the Staten Island business community.”
This year, we celebrate Troost Bros 25 years of chamber membership and congratulate them on their continued commitment to the community!
