Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and National Grid Team Up To Clean Streets in Downtown Staten Island

On October 3, 2025, Flagship Brewery opened its doors on a beautiful fall morning for nearly 40 volunteers to assemble and distribute supplies. For a fourth year, National Grid partnered with the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce to clean and beautify the streets of Downtown Staten Island. This year, the event was part of National Grid’s Grid for Good Global Day of Service, an initiative that brings together colleagues across the U.K. and U.S. to make a meaningful impact in the communities they serve.
Before heading out to Bay Street in St. George, Tompkinsville, and Stapleton to pick up trash and clean tree beds, volunteers were thanked for their service by the NYC Dept. of Sanitation’s Community Coordinator, Marissa Yanni. National Grid volunteers were joined in their work by representatives from Borough President Vito Fossella’s “clean team,” Council Member Kamillah Hanks’ office, and Assembly Member Charles Fall’s office.
“I’m grateful for the impactful work our community partners are doing, working side-by-side with our volunteers, many who live and work in the communities we serve,” said Komie Jain, National Grid’s Global Head Social Impact and Community Engagement. “Volunteering is not just about giving back; it’s about creating connections and strengthening communities.”
"Our Day of Service in Downtown Staten Island was more than a cleanup—it was a celebration of community spirit and collaboration. In my dual role managing Staten Island’s External Affairs for National Grid and serving as Chairwoman of the Chamber, I’m proud to see our organizations come together to invest in the vitality of our borough. This effort reflects our shared commitment to building a cleaner, stronger, and more connected Staten Island." added Carol Decina, National Grid’s Manager of Strategic and External Affairs for Staten Island, and Chairwoman of the Chamber.
Chamber President and CEO Linda Baran commented, “This day of service is about more than picking up litter. It’s about neighbors, businesses, and leaders coming together to show pride in our borough. We’re proud to work with National Grid and our community partners to make a visible difference in this important Staten Island commercial corridor.”
After a morning of hard work, over 60 bags of trash were collected. Volunteers then returned to Flagship Brewery, where they were treated to pizza and soft drinks from local restaurant Pier 76.
