Staten Island Chamber and National Grid Deliver Another $80K to Small Businesses

The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce continues to put resources directly into the hands of local businesses through its Staten Island Energy Affordability Initiative, a National Grid-funded program designed to help businesses manage rising natural gas costs and invest in long-term energy efficiency.

To date, the Chamber has distributed $170,000 to Staten Island small businesses and organizations through the National Grid Foundation. In this latest round, more than $80,000 was awarded to 12 businesses and organizations, helping employers across the borough offset unexpected utility costs and complete energy-related improvements that strengthen their operations. These 12 recipients join the 13 assisted in the first round, completed in August 2026.

Recipients represent a wide cross section of Staten Island's business community, including restaurants, retailers, healthcare providers, schools, professional service firms, and neighborhood small businesses. From family-owned establishments to longstanding community institutions, the program is helping local organizations remain resilient in the face of rising energy costs.

Through the initiative, eligible businesses were able to receive assistance in two ways:

• Energy Efficiency Grants of up to $10,000 to reimburse qualifying improvements such as insulation, window and door replacements, heat-loss mitigation, and upgrades to natural gas equipment.

• Emergency Energy Relief Grants ranging from $500 to $2,000 for businesses experiencing financial hardship due to high gas bills or the threat of service interruption.
