Helping Small Businesses Manage Rising Gas Costs

The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the National Grid Foundation, is launching a new initiative to support small businesses facing increased natural gas expenses.

Administered by the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the initiative will provide flexible financial assistance to small businesses experiencing hardship due to increased utility expenses. Grants ranging from $500 up to $10,000 will be available to help support modest energy-related improvements that reduce ongoing expenses.

The initiative will exclusively serve Staten Island small businesses. The Application deadline is April 30, 2026. If selected, applicants will be notified in late May 2026.

OPTION 1: ENERGY-RELATED UPGRADES / Up to $10,000 (Reimbursement-Based)

For improvements that help reduce ongoing gas costs, including:
• Insulation or heat-loss improvements
• Window or door repair or replacement
• Replacement of inefficient gas equipment essential to operations

Note: Upgrade funding is provided on a reimbursement basis after completion of work and submission of paid documentation.

OPTION 2: EMERGENCY GRANT RELIEF / $500 – $2,000 Direct Grants

For businesses facing:
• Utility shutoff risk
• Severe financial hardship
• Unusually high seasonal or rate-related gas costs

Funds may be used to:
• Offset current or outstanding gas utility bills
• Prevent service disruption
