Chamber of Commerce to honor long-term members

Staten Island, NY. December 12, 2011 – On December 15 at Da Noi Restaurant (138 Fingerboard Road) at 12:00pm, the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce will honor its dedicated long-term members. Established in 1895, The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce relies on its members to continue its work in promoting business interests on Staten Island. Without these committed members, the Chamber would not be able to provide the high quality services it is known for.

“This luncheon will give the Chamber’s board an opportunity to personally thank these long-standing members for their commitment and support of the Chamber throughout the years. Many of these businesses make up the fabric of our community and should be recognized for all of their contributions,” stated Linda Baran, president & CEO of the Chamber.

Consolidated Edison Co. of NY Inc, which joined the Chamber in 1936, will celebrate 75 years of Chamber membership. New York City pulses with energy. It is the global center of finance, communications, information technology, and other industries dependent on reliable energy. For more than 180 years, Con Edison has been supplying the energy that powers New York. From its humble beginnings as the Richmond Light, Heat, and Power Company in 1887, to today’s energy giant, Con Edison has been a reliable and trusted partner, helping support Chamber initiatives and programs that benefit all of Staten Island. Over the years Con Edison has undergone many transformations and changes. It operated the New York Staten Island Electric company and its power plant located at Richmond Terrace and Bard Avenue. It oversaw the Staten Island railroad company, and in 1950, what is today’s Con Edison folded the Staten Island Edison Corporation, one of its subsidiaries, into its existing system. It now provides power and electricity to Staten Island families and businesses, and is intimately involved in the Staten Island community.

Also being honored at the luncheon is Holtermann’s Bakery, which will celebrate 50 years of membership. The oldest bakery on Staten Island, Holtermann’s, a business that has survived and prospered for 135 years, continues to serve the community and honor its storied history. At 85 years old, Clifford Holtermann, the bakery’s patriarch, remembers hanging signage in the Chamber’s Bay Street office when he worked for the family business while in high school. “The Chamber allowed us a certain amount of time to promote ourselves, and I remember going over there every day for a week and putting up new product,” Holtermann said. Jill, his daughter, also works at the bakery, and wants everyone to know that Holtermann’s continues to be involved and ready to lend a helping hand. “It’s amazing how hard we’ve worked as a family over the last 135 years. We started by delivering our product by horse and buggy! As a fourth generation, I just want to stay involved and help out in the community as much as I can.”

The Chamber will also celebrate the 25 year membership of:

Shamrock Paints
C.B. Contracting Corp.
Real Madrid Restaurant Inc.
Richmond Chandelier Co.
A Very Special Place

During the luncheon, these long-term members will be presented with a gift in honor of their commitment and support to the Chamber and the Staten Island community.
