Staten Island pol urgers shoppers to respect handicapped parking spaces
silive.com - December 2, 2011STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- With the holiday shopping season in full swing, Assemblyman Michael Cusick and members of his task force appeared at the Staten Island Mall today to kick-off their ninth annual public awareness campaign urging motorists to respect handicapped parking spaces.
Cusick has made annual holiday appearances at the mall in recent years to make the request.
"As the holiday season approaches and stores fill up with customers, we need remain aware that spaces are reserved for handicapped residents for a reason" Cusick said.
Among those joining Cusick were Linda Baran, president of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce; Lorraine Desantis, executive director of the Staten Island Center for Independent Living; Dennis McKeon of Where to Turn; Dave Albertson of General Growth Properties, Staten Island Mall; and Lt. David Goodwin of NYPD Community Affairs.
Signs promoting the campaign will be put up by volunteers in any Staten Island business that would like to support the initiative.
