West Shore businesses participating in the Chamber of Commerce's 3/50 Project
silive.com - September 27, 2011STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - WEST SHORE - "Pick three, spend fifty." That's the motto of "The 3/50 Project."
In honor of Staten Island's 350th anniversary, the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce has signed on as a supporter of The 3/50 Project, a national, grassroots campaign created to help support mom-and-pop businesses that make our communities unique, diverse and viable.
The program was founded by a Minneapolis woman, Cinda Baxter, to encourage consumers to think about the locally-owned businesses in their neighborhoods that they would hate to see leave, to stop in and say "hello" and to spend some money too.
"We hope that The 3/50 Project here on Staten Island will help our locally-owned businesses increase their exposure and help preserve our rich and storied history," said Linda Baran, president and CEO of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce.
Island business owners can sign up with the Chamber to participate in the program. To date more than 100 businesses have registered. The Chamber hopes to sign up at least 350 businesses in keeping with the 350th anniversary theme. Businesses can find out more about the program on the Chamber's website, www.sichamber.com, or at www.the350project.net.
