Eat Mor Chikin’!

Staten Islanders can now satisfy their chicken cravings as Chick-fil-A officially opened for business with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new Staten Island Mall location.

“It’s that constant question, ‘When are you guys opening? When are you guys opening?’ It’s been a process, but the buzz has been huge,” said franchise owner Roosevelt Board. “We’ve been getting a lot of attention from people across the Staten Island community and from other boroughs. We’re just excited that now we can finally say, ‘We’re open.’”

The franchise now has 2,363 locations, but the Mall site is the first one on Staten Island.

“We’re just excited to bring Chick-fil-A to the Staten Island community and let them taste what a lot of people have been raving about, and that’s our great product and great service,” Board said.

Speaking of the community, Chick-fil-A will be an active contributor to the Staten Island community as the restaurant will participate in the company’s Shared Table program, which eliminates food waste by providing surplus food to those in need in the community. Through this initiative, the new Chick-fil-A will assist chamber member Project Hospitality.

“Many people donate food during the holidays, but we need food all year long. So, it was nice to hear that we would have a long-term partnership,” said Christopher Hellstrom, Project Hospitality’s Director of Agency Advancement, who was present at the ceremony. “We have a mobile food pantry that serves all of Staten Island from Tompkinsville to Tottenville. We need to have extra food to give out to people that need it.”

Chick-fil-A is the latest business to open as part of the Staten Island Mall’s expansion, which began in 2015. The chicken eatery joins new Mall occupants Shake Shack, Dave & Buster’s, Land’s End, and Sleep Number as fellow Chamber members.

A South Carolina native, Board has relocated to Staten Island and is excited about the move.

“We’re still getting used to the tolls and the traffic, of course. For the most part, it’s been a great transition. We love it,” the owner said. “Staten Island is different from the other boroughs. It’s more community-based. That’s what we’re used to down south. And we’re excited to be a part of that.”

Chick-fil-A is located in the newly-renovated Food District inside the Mall and will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Like all Chick-fil-A’s, the restaurant is closed on Sundays.
