SI Chamber Adds New Staff to Strengthen Staten Island’s Workforce

Staten Island, N.Y., January 10, 2018 – The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce announces a brand-new workforce development and human resource service to employers on Staten Island as a benefit to Chamber member businesses and organizations. Employers can now have job listings created and posted on various job search platforms; screening and assessments of potential candidates, and access to a broader network of college candidates. Small businesses and mom and pop stores make up 80% of the SI Chamber membership. These businesses will particularly benefit from these new human resource tools through increased support and assistance with the SI Chamber’s human resource services.
 
The SI Chamber welcomes Katherine Fitzgerald as their new Talent and Workforce Development Specialist. She joined the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce in late December and is motivated, energetic, and passionate about helping businesses & institutions fulfill their workforce needs. Some of her job responsibilities will include: connecting employers to talented job seekers on Staten Island; providing employers with information related to human resource policies, procedures, and programs; overseeing the Chamber Assist Online Job Board; and acting as the employer liason for Youth WINS, a multi-organizational workforce partnership.
 
Fitzgerald is also preparing for next month’s Annual High School CareerCon, which will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at St. John’s University, 300 Howard Ave, Staten Island, NY, from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm. She is currently seeking interested businesses to educate over 500 students on career choices; employers will receive a complementary showcase/ recruitment table, access to recruit high school interns, and the opportunity to advertise their businesses. Fitzgerald has extensive research and workforce development experience. Before joining the Chamber, she assessed performance and trained over 500 individuals for employment or school and tracks progress to increase retention rates. She will work very closely with the community to develop opportunities for Staten Island residents by focusing on labor market trends and data. She will enhance connections with local businesses to expand job opportunities and assist with recruitment and training needs.   
 
Fitzgerald is graduating with her Master of Science degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology with a focus on Organizational Behavior, magna cum laude in May 2018.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Business Management at the College of Staten Island with cum laude. She has a publication in the Journal for Vocational Rehabilitation on employment skills in individuals with autism.  
 
“I’m excited to expand and enhance the Chamber’s programs by developing new relations and analyzing market data. I plan to use my academic and employment experience to create and lead diverse programs to facilitate the career development of Staten Island residents,” says Fitzgerald.
