Think Outside the Building: NYC Parks wants Mobile Food Unit Ideas

Megan Moriarty - April 9, 2015

The City of New York Department of Parks & Recreation is requesting proposals for the sale of specialty food from Mobile Food Units at various locations Citywide.

In the Proposal Request, the Parks Department defines a Mobile Food Unit as, "a self-contained service operation, located in a vehicle or a movable stand, self or otherwise propelled, used to store, prepare, display or serve food intended for individual portion service."

Proposals should include a detailed operational plan, including a menu, pricing, and any plans to install energy efficient appliances. The Parks Department also stresses the importance of creativity in the planning process. "We invite you to participate by proposing your most inventive, exciting food idea, whether you are selling an assortment of healthy, fresh salads to people on the go, or offering hot and cold delicacies from a distant homeland."

The following sites in Staten Island are open for potential specialty food vendors:

  • Bloomingdale Park
  • Clove Lakes Park
  • CPL. Thompson Park
  • Midland Beach
  • Tappen Park
  • Wolfe’s Pond

Proposals are due Monday, May 11th, 2015 at 3:00 pm. Contestants will be notified by early June.
