Our school program has a community based vocational training component, whereby many of our adolescents (with the support and supervision of their teachers) volunteer their time by performing job related tasks for local businesses in the community. We get to help real business people get real work done, while simultaneously exposing our students to a variety of job related tasks. This allows us to assess preference and abilities for activities and potential future employment opportunities. Our volunteer opportunities include work at Adobe Blues (a restaurant on Staten Island), performing assembly and sorting tasks for GradoLabs, completing office and clerical work at National Subrogation Services (NSS) (located in Jericho, NY), as well as food preparation, setting tables, gardening and cleaning at the Weeping Willow Catering Hall (located in Farmingdale, NY). Additionally, our students volunteer at the College of Staten Island's cafeteria, Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Eltingville Lutheran Church.
If you are interested in learning more about this aspect of our program, or collaborating with us by having our students volunteer at your business, please contact Randy Horowitz.
