Business Spotlight: Maaco

Provided by the YPG - April 3, 2013

¨      How did you start in this business?  Why did you choose this field?  Is this what you always wanted to be when you “grew up”?

After completing graduate school, I landed a job in “Corporate America.”  I worked in the financial market for a few years only to realize it was not for me.   I had a desire to be my own boss.  My grand parents were small business owners, my uncles are small business owners and my parents were small business owners.  I guess you could say that owning a business was in my blood.   My parents established Maaco Collision Repair and Auto Painting in 1983. They have since retired and I now run the company.   I chose this field because it has a great demand.  Everyone drives an automobile and everyone will need a repair at some point. Owning a business is something that I have always wanted to do.  It is a great feeling to know that everything you do will directly affect your future.  You have the ability to take your company as far as you are willing to.  The more work that you put into it, the greater the payoff.

Now news is literally reported as it happens and many times not by a reporter or media outlet.
Smartphones and social media have made it possible for everyone to create a story and a buzz
without an editor.  Often we are responding to the “news”.  Even real reporters tweet and post.
