Young Entrepreneurs Academy teen ready to test her prototype

Staten Island pediatricians may soon be getting a visit from an aspiring young entrepreneur who wants to talk candidly about one of childhood’s greatest fears: inoculations.

Danielle Aylmer was the winner of the first Young Entrepreneurs Academy’s (YEA!) investor panel in 2013/2014, pitching her idea for Syngies, a toy that snaps onto a syringe to distract youngsters from the sharp (needle). The investor panel – comprised of Staten Island business people - is similar to a “Shark Tank” experience for young participants in the annual after-school program sponsored by the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Applications are now being accepted for the academy’s third class.

Staten Island, NY – July 8thThe Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and the Staten Island Advance will host its annual Police Officer of the Year Luncheon on Tuesday, July 28th, at 12pm at the Hilton Garden Inn (1110 South Avenue, Staten Island, NY). Staten Island’s top cops from 2014 will be recognized by NYC Commissioner William J. Bratton as well as the Chamber’s Safety and Security Committee.

Honorees will receive the Police Officer of the Month award for their daily commitment and service to borough residents. A Police Officer(s) of the Year will also be announced during the event. This special ceremony occurs each year to commemorate the NYPD’s great work in the Staten Island community.

Recently, the Five Borough Chamber Alliance of New York City sent a letter to Congressional Representatives asking that payment of the Interest Assessment Surcharge (IAS) to the Unemployment Insurance Division of the NYS Department of Labor be postponed or reassessed.
