The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce hosted its FDNY Valor Awards Luncheon on Thursday, March 16 at the Hilton Garden Inn (1100 South Avenue, Staten Island, NY). The event was sponsored by Richmond University Medical Center and Spectrum Reach + Spectrum Business.
The FDNY Valor Awards Luncheon gives the Chamber and the business community a chance to honor the heroic actions of New York’s Bravest who protect Staten Island, and to acknowledge the men and women who go above and beyond the call of duty. Staten Island’s top Firefighters, Paramedics and EMTs from 2015 and 2016 will be recognized by the Commissioner of the New York City Fire Department, Daniel A. Nigro, as well as the Chamber’s Safety and Security Committee.
On Saturday and Sunday, February 11 and 12, the Staten Island Children’s Museum is teaming up with the Staten Island Zoo to show some love to our animal friends.

The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Police Officer of the Year Luncheon on Thursday, July 14 at 12 noon at Li Greci’s Staaten (697 Forest Ave., Staten Island, NY) and is sponsored by Gerald Peters and Sottile Security International, Inc. Staten Island’s top police officers from 2015 will be recognized by NYC Commissioner William J. Bratton as well as the Chamber’s Safety and Security Committee.
Staten Island businesses came together in the largest exclusive Business to Business Expo to date on Staten Island. Included in the event were representatives from international, national and regional businesses. Coming from as far as China, Japan, and Germany, and throughout the United States, these businesses met to form relationships and further the economic growth and vitality of the Island.
Beyond the Ferry Business to Business Expo, an exciting new collaboration between the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and KDDI/Telehouse, will debut on Staten Island on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 12PM-5PM. For the first time, the Expo will bring together local, national and international businesses to explore the economic vitality of the Island.
Wednesday, June 8, torrential rains forced the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce to postpone its annual golf outing, but that led to a great meal for the Island’s hungry and homeless residents.

Golfers will enjoy specialty foods and products from Chamber businesses throughout the day, and prizes will be given to some top competitors. Contests include two hole-in-one contests, with prizes being a 2016 Grand Cherokee from Island Auto Group and a motorcycle from Harley Davison of Staten Island; a “beat-the-intern” contest; and trophies including longest drive and closest-to-the-pin. The outing will be topped off with an upscale barbecue dinner catered by Smokin’ Pit.
The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce will host its 30th Annual Richard B. Irwin Memorial Golf Outing on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 from 12:30 pm to 8 pm at LaTourette Golf Course. Committee co-chairs are Mike Bloomfield of Tekie Geek and James Evans of Evans Manufacturing Brokerage, Inc. This year’s outing will showcase Chamber businesses and also kick off the summer with the Third Annual High School Invitational for Staten Island public, private and parochial high school students, starting at 7 am.

The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce Foundation is searching for high school students who could be the next Bill Gates or Martha Stewart. Applications are now being accepted for the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) 2015-2016 class. YEA! is an after-school, extracurricular program that guides high school students through launching and running their own real businesses or social movements.

Recently, the Five Borough Chamber Alliance of New York City sent a letter to Congressional Representatives asking that payment of the Interest Assessment Surcharge (IAS) to the Unemployment Insurance Division of the NYS Department of Labor be postponed or reassessed. It was sent in response to a July notification to businesses requiring them to pay $21.25 per employee to offset interest payments to the Federal Government.
